More 35mm from Yokohama

More of my film shots from the Mooneyes show

This panhead belongs to a petite Japanese chick...yes she kicks and rides it!

The feeling you have when you round this corner into the show on a bike is literally breathtaking! At least it was for me the first time and continues to be. I felt it for Big Scott as the doors opened...

Greasy Kulture Magazine #35

35 issues ago Greasy Kulture was just a website.  A really cool website that was one of the few links to the modern movement of vintage choppers.  I would check for updates all of the time, wanting, one day to have a chopper as cool as the ones on there.  And now, Guy Bolton, the man behind the magazine has given me the great honor of the magazine cover!  I'm incredibly stoked and had no idea that this was his plan.  My little pile of parts and me.  I was happy enough, and surprised that he wanted a feature!  When I got back from Brooklyn this weekend, I didnt feel home sweet home until I saw my panhead at the Lodge.  I'll always love my bike.  Its a dream come true, and a dream that couldnt happen without friends like Alonzo, Grant and Dom, thats for sure.  just need to fix it now!  Great pictures by a great dude, Mark Kawakami at JoyRidesArtCo

Thank you GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Japan 2012...1710 pictures

I only took 1710 pictures this year in Japan for our trip to the Mooneyes Hot Rod & Custom Show. I'll try and start going through them... We had another amazing time there. We saw all our old friends and keep meeting great new ones. I would saw the show was even better than the 3 previous years i have attended, the bar is perpetually raised by all the builders over there, hats off to you. And hats off to Shige and the whole Moon staff for doing what they do and all the work that goes into pulling off a show this size! I kinda have a clue as what it takes... Mike's Preunit looked amazing as did the rest of the guests bikes. Many of them are our Born-Free 4 builders and award winners which was cool to see it taking them places.

Thanks again to everyone that hung out, took us around, let us into your shop or home! We love you. Now i'm more jazzed than ever to get my '37 UL done!!!

New Greasy Kulture

In a possible lapse of judgement, Guy at Greasy Kulture decided to put me and my shovel on the cover of his new issue. I am flattered, but i hope sales don't suffer!
It is cool though because a lot of little details have changed on my bike since i first got it on the road a few years ago like the bars/risers, made a new seat, the tin primary, fully rebuilt motor, etc...pretty proud of my old shovel and what it is now. It was all i had to work with for a few years. Photos by Mark Kawakami of Joyrides and Speed Merchant

Anyway, thanks Guy! I can't wait to see it. CLICK HERE for the Greasy Kulture site.

more perspective

After poking around a little online yesterday and seeing that lots of people had decent things to say about the Dave Mann show I though maybe I was a little hard on it, but around 11pm last night laying in bed i realized it was because i had been in Japan at the Mooneyes show about a week ago and saw all kinds of thought provoking builds and the people behind them.
"Good" is of course a relative term, but it reaffirmed yet another GREAT trip to the Far East and how nice it is to be inspired.

It seemed like the Mann show was packed with unridden show bikes which seems like the farthest thing from Dave Mann himself and what his art represents. I think i would rather see neat bikes with fuel stains and oil splatter from the ride to Ventura than the same old (and new) trailer queens. I'll get off my high horse now, but first here's a picture of AG's swift Shovel as the whole Vice Crew were about to ride 8 hours back to Nagoya from Yokohama...
